The news coming from McLaren are still quite daunting.
While Vandoorne managed to improve on the best time of the team in the morning session with 1’21 “671, the best time of the season for the team, his car stopped twice, once out of the pits, and on the other in the ascent to the stadium.
The intermediate specification of the engine has improved the performance a little, but it has not exceeded 120 kilometers on track, the approximate equivalent of half a grand prize.
In the team the situation is not ideal. Yesterday Alonso pointed to Honda as the only cause of the bad performance, and the team suspended the joint press conference by Eric Boullier and Yusuke Hasegawa that had been planned for 15 hours.
Although this morning issue looks like an electrical problem, problems in the team accumulate and engine power remains the biggest headache.
On the bright side we find the Ferrari, who flew on track with Vettel leading the morning session with a 1: 19.024, the best time of the preseason.
Here the standings of the morning session:
- Vettel 1’19″024
